Yaya was born in Paris. In her family the art world was non-existent. Nonetheless, when she was 7 years old, Yaya took some old planks and used them to make sculptures, adding a splash of colour using paint. When she was 12 years old her imagination drew her to poetry. She wrote her own poems and adapted them into songs, which she played on the guitar. She often says this was her outlet and the only way she could continue to dream.
Living in Paris she took a sculpture workshop. She became interested in Aztec, Mayan and Inca civilizations; after much research she produced a range of statutes, shaping the clay by hand.
In 1981 Yaya and her family moved to Luxembourg.
It is in this country that she would have her most significant artistic experiences in various cultural realms through theatre, music, sculpture and, of course, painting. Yaya worked closely with a painter who taught her printmaking techniques. She was immediately impressed by the impact of the colours and rediscovered the infatuation she had during her childhood with the colourful planks.
In 2015 Yaya graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in painting and history of arts. She developed her colour palette and her overflowing imagination led her to a world between dream and reality.
Yaya has been creating this world since childhood. Her curiosity and thirst for knowledge have fostered her interaction with different artistic worlds in an attempt to better evolve, get to know herself and to eventually return to her first passion: colour. She has always known that painting would be a life-long passion for her.
